Michael was born on 7 October 1836 in Country Clare, Ireland.[1]
On 1 February 1857, Michael married Margaret Connor at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Morphett Vale, South Australia.[2]
Michael passed away on 28 July 1912 near Kadina, South Australia. He was 75 years of age.[3]
The following short obituary appeared in the Adelaide Observer on 10 August 1912:
Mr. Michael Sebastian Mclnerney
The death of Mr. Michael Sebastian McInerney, which occurred at Jerusalem, near Kadina, recently, removed another early settler of the Wallaroo district. The deceased, who was 76 years old, came to the State with his parents in the ship Thomas Gresham in 1856 and resided at Kapunda. He removed to Wallaroo in 1864. Sixteen years later he took up land in the Lochiel district, where he remained for 10 years, and then shifted to Kadina. He has left a widow, one son, and five daughters.[4]
Immigration: Michael's obituary states he "came to the State with his parents in the ship Thomas Gresham in 1856". According to state records, the ship "Sir Thomas Gresham" brought immigrants to South Australia in 1854 and 1858, but not in 1856. The passenger list for the 1858 voyage includes two single male passengers called Michael McInerney both aged 24, and one Michael McInnery aged 18 travelling with parents (Conrad (or Connor) and Catherine).
Michael's wedding records give his father's name as Patrick. So none of the ages or parental names seem to match up. Further research is needed.
