Research Notes
Name variations
Several variant spellings of her surname have been used. The most common variant being MCINNES, but also including MACINNESS, MCINNIS and MCGINNIS. It is possible that her middle name was Ethel, however this has only been discovered on one document (the marriage of her daughter Mary Ethel ROSSER to George Varley BEVERIDGE).
She was apparently known to her nieces and nephews as "Aunt Polly" [6].
Birth date and place
Most census entries suggest that Mary was born in the Province of Ontario [3][1][5] (with the exception of the 1891 census, which indicates Quebec) [4]. A date of "Oct 1852" was given in the 1901 census [1]; other census entries suggest the following date ranges:
Death date
Mary is listed in the voters lists for Federal elections in 1935 [7] and 1940 [8] but not in 1945 or later. Similarly, Mary's listing in Lovell's annual
street directory for Montreal ceases after the 1940-41 edition.
