Private Benony McIntyre served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: Mar 12, 1862 Mustered out: 1864 Side: CSA Regiment(s): Company K, 10th Tennessee Cavalry
He is living in the home of his father and stepmother in the 1850 census in McNairy County, Tennessee. [2]
He moved to Carroll County, Tennessee before 1860 and was a clerk for James Towns. This is probably where he met Mr. Thomas Hall as he was also working for Mr. Towns at the same time. [3]
Unlike his brothers who enlisted in the Sixth Tennessee Cavalry, USA, Ben served with the Confederate Army, enlisting in Company K, Tenth Tennessee Cavalry, CSA. B. S. McIntire/McEntire, as he was most often referred, was wounded in the battle of Dibrell's Hill, Sevier County, Tennessee, and had his leg amputated the next day.
He returned home and moved to Henry County, Tennessee, working as a salesman for T. K. Hall and later for R. W. Hall of Jackson, Tennessee. [4].
The 1870 census identifies him as living in a probable boarding house in Paris, Tennessee, working as a clerk. [5]
He returned to McNairy County in 1871, starting a dry good and grocery business in Purdy.[6]
He married Maud Kindel and they had one daughter, Ophelia V. McIntyre.[7]
He was appointed the U. S. Postmaster at Purdy, Tennessee the 8th of Mar 1899.[8]
B. S. McIntire purchased 25 1/2 acres from J. F. Huddleston in 1883, in McNairy County, Tennessee.[9].[4].
B. S. died Sep 1899 and is laid to rest in a now unmarked grave at the Purdy Cemetery. His Estate was entered into probate the Oct Term 1899, McNairy County Court with R. D. Anderson appointed as the administrator of his estate.[10]
