Biography
William John McKay was born in about 1811 in Londonderry, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
He married Charlotte Campbell in about 1835 but it isn't clear if they married in Ireland or Scotland. William was born in Ireland. Their oldest son was thought to be born in Scotland, but the following two were thought to be born in Ireland. Their children were David Mc Kay, Thomas Mckay, George McKay, James Campbell McKay, Ellen McKay and Margaret McKay. There are no birth or baptism records for the children in Scotland.
William possibly died in about 1856 but no death registration has been found.
His wife remarried to John Mcsevney on 4 April 1858 in Whitletts, Ayrshire, Scotland and she died 10 years later on 30 June 1868 Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland .
After the death of their mother in 1868, Thomas McKay, James Campbell McKay and Ellen McKay with their spouses and Margaret McKay, who was single at the time, all migrated to the United States.
