JAMES W. McKAY, was the son of Scottish parents. He operated McKay Shoe Repair on Main Street in New Port Richey for many years. He came to New Port Richey in 1924 according to his obituary. He was born in Boston. He served in Florida during the Spanish-American War, and moved to Florida from Massachusetts after the war, first settling in Dunedin, and then New Port Richey. He married Elizabeth R. (1878-1961). Their children were Reine McKay, a daughter who died shortly after birth in 1907; Helen Ross McKay (1908-1964); Allen William McKay (1909- 1983); Chester Rufus McKay (1910-1942), who was killed in World War II and for whom VFW Post 7987 is named; George Logan McKay (1911-1984); and James Gordon McKay (1913-1985; GHS '34).
