Catherine (Katrina) was born in 1875 in Glengarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, and her birth was registered at Kilbirnie, Ayrshire[1]. She was the daughter of Daniel McKechnie and Catherine Campbell.
In 1881 she was visiting her grandparents, Alexander (62 ) and Catherine (62) Campbell and their three daughters - Mary (23), Agnes (21) and Elizabeth (8) - at No 125 Glengarnock, Kilbirnie [2][3]. Her parents, Daniel (41) and Catherine (28), had no doubt taken their one-day old son to visit his grandparents together with their other three children - Catherine (5) Hector (3) and Alexander (1). She was with her grandparents again in 1891 at the same address[4]. Also in the household were her two aunts - Agnes (a fishing net worker aged 31) and Lizzie (Elizabeth) (a dressmaker aged 28) and her cousin, Robert Allan (a scholar aged 6). She too was a fishing net worker aged 16 born at Glengarnock.
By 1901 she was with her parents, Daniel (a pattern maker aged 61) and Catherine (48), who had moved to 32 Hendry Street, Falkirk, Stirlingshire[5]. Also in the household were her four siblings, Alexander (21), Robert (18), Malcolm (14 and Janet (11). She aged 25 had no occupation listed, so maybe she was looking after her parents.
Katrina (McKechnie) Wilson migrated from Scotland to New Zealand.
She immigrated to New Zealand in 1913 on the ship Turakina which sailed from London on 28 November 1912, arriving in Wellington on 17 January 1913. It is thought that Catherine changed her name to Katrina Darroch on the ship as she was calling herself by her new name when she married in 1914.
Katrina married Alexander Linton Wilson on 17 January 1914[6] in Wellington. They had one daughter.
In 1922 she was living at 35 Broadway, Miramar, Wellington, being listed on the Wellington Suburbs Supplementary no 1 Electoral Roll with her husband Alexander Linton a telephone mechanician[9].
In 1961 she was a widow at 21 Waikato St, Wellington South, being listed on the Island Bay Main Electoral Roll[10].
Katrina passed away on 4 March 1963 aged 87 years[11]. She was cremated at the Karori Crematorium, Wellington[12].
