Harry was born on 10 February 1904 in Rock Falls, Whiteside County, Illinois.[1] He was the son of John McKenna and Mollie Trulock. He grew up with his parents on his father's farm in Hume Township, Whiteside County, Illinois.[2][3]
In 1930, Harry was living in Rock Falls with his brother, Charles McKenna and his family and he was working in a radio factory.[4]
In 1940, Harry was boarding with Jonathan Barrett and Joanna Reardon Barrett, and was unemployed with the usual occupation of working at the farm machine factory.[5]
