William was born 12 Jun 1898 in Milford, Massachusetts, the son of Simon J McKenna, a Teamster, and Honora Donovan[1]. In the 1900 census, 2 year old William is living with his parents and siblings Jane 4 and Caroline 3 in Saugus.[2]. In the 1910 census, 12 year old is living on Broadway in Saugus with his parents and siblings Caroline M 13, Mary E 5 and James J age 2. Also there is Cornelius O'Donovan, a Teamster doing general hauling type work.[3]. On Sep 18, 1918 William registered for the WWI draft in Stoneham and he was working as a Chauffeur Mechanic for the Fleischman Yeast Co, 100 Inman Av in Cambridge[4]. William, age 22, is doing Auto Repair work in a garage in the 1920 census. He is living at 218 Central St. in Saugus with his parents and siblings Caroline, 22, a Waitress, Mary E, 15 and James J age 12.[5]
