Biography

Sea Captain John McKenna came from Ireland to Yarmouth Nova Scotia in 1786[1]

On November 9, 1786, he married Rebecca Lovett, daughter of Andrew Lovett and Lydia Thorndike, who were among the founders of Yarmouth[2]. They were married by Rev Jonathan Scott (A record may also be found in 1907 Mayflower Descendants.)

Their children included:

  1. Jonathan, who married Edith Cann, daughter of Hugh[2]
  2. William, who married Prudence Gates and Hannah Goucher[2]
  3. John, who married Elizabeth Cohoon and lived in Liverpool, Nova Scotia[3]
  4. Henry, who married Lydia Corning, daughter of David[2]
  5. Sophia, who married Josiah Cann, son of Hugh[2]
  6. Clarissa, born 1798, who married Theodore Scovil and Benjamin Brown[2]

Rebecca (Thorndike) McKenna died before her father in 1806. This was clearly indicated in his will, and her portion was left to her heirs [2]

Capt John McKenna May 8, 1811, this is stated in his estate records. His will notes their children[4]
