Biography

Andrew was part of the McKibben lineage, which has it roots in Ireland and Scotland. His great-grandfather Joseph immigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania in the 1740's.

Andrew was born in Pennsylvania, and became a farmer in Osceola, Missouri. Census records (see below) place him in Metal, Franklin, PA at birth; Allegheny, PA by 1835; Van Buren, IA after 1850 and before 1856; and Osceola, MO after 1860 and before 1870.

Andrew married Mary Beam in 1835. They had several children. After Mary passed away in 1875, he married second Mary F. Welch in 1876, daughter of John and Mary Elliot. Andrew and Mary Welch had five more children, two of whom did not survive past childhood.

The age stated in the 1880 Census (age 59) is incorrect.

Obituary

1889: Death Notice: Andrew McKibben, an old resident of St. Clair county, died at the poor farm last Saturday and was buried Sunday afternoon. Mr. McKibben's life had been one of unusual ups and downs. A few years ago he was one of the well to do farmers of the county, but met with reverses which broke him up completely, and he died a pauper. ~The Osceola, St. Clair County Republican, Wed. Aug 14, 1889, p.5 in the St. Clair County items. He is buried in the County Grave Yard, but it's on private property now and not accessible. There are many land deeds showing he owned a lot of property. Stories handed down in the family shed some light on what happened to it.
