1938, Thursday August 25 The Almonte Gazette OBITUARY- DEATH OF GEORGE McKINLEY Tribute to the memory of Robert George McKinley, whose death with shocking suddenness occurred at his home in Pakenham Village, early Saturday morning, was paid Sunday afternoon, by scores of friends and relatives who attended his funeral, held from the late residence at 1:30 to St. Andrews United Church here. Interment was made in the Union Cemetery. pastor, Rev. H.A. Turner. The choir sang effectively, including the sacred song "The Old Rugged Cross" his favorite hymn. Mr. McKinley was born on the 12th line of Ramsay, 79 years ago, a son of the late Archibald McKinlay and his wife Agnes Kilgore. In 1894 he moved to the 11th line of Pakenham, and in 1914 he was married to Miss Etta Agnes Hudson who passed away eight years ago. He was a member of a family of ten. Eleven years ago he moved to Pakenham Village where he has since made his home. Left to mourn are one daughter, Miss Isobel McKinley at home, and three sisters, Mary, Mrs. James Drynan, Almonte; Rebecca, Mrs. Benjamin Williams of Carleton Place; and Margaret, Mrs. Hugh Fleming of Pakenham. He was a devout member of the Presbyterian Church and later the United Church and had been in failing health for a number of years. Mr. McKinley was an honorary member of the Agricultural Society, on the committee of Stewards of the United Church, a member of the parsonage, manse and trustee board of the church and a member of the L.O.L. 529, Pakenham, and a staunch Conservative. Among those from a distance were Mrs. Ben Williams, Mr. & Mrs. G.H. Williams, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Williams, Mrs. Robert Dunlop, Mrs. Joseph Chapman and son John, Miss K Hourigan, Mr. & Mrs. David Drummond of Carleton Place, Mr. & Mrs. Reggie Hudson, Mr. & Mrs. Earl Lawford, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Little, and Mrs. Mertie Pettipiece of Ottawa; Mrs. James Drynam and son Percy, Mr. & Mrs. T.A. Thompson of Almonte; Mr. & Mrs. Ed Hudson; Mrs. D. Cameron, Mrs. James Robertson, Mr. & Mrs. George Etherington, Fred and Gordon Etherington, Mr. & Mrs. M. Cameron, Mr. John Russell, Mrs. Peter Mclean and son Elmer, Mr. W. Hudson of Arnprior; Mr. & Mrs. Wesley Moorehouse of Woodstock and Dr. S. Drummond of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pallbearers were Messrs: Ralph McKenzie, A.E. Blair, Charles Brown, Wm. Belford, Ernest Connery, and Wilbert Fulton. Numerous floral offerings were in evidence. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved family.
