Richard served as Sergeant, Co I, 2nd regiment, TX Inf., CSA Civil War, Nov 1863 -1865. Served under Col. John C. Moore. Stationed entire duration of war in Galveston, Texas. According to McKnight book by Texarado, his daughter, he helped run blockades and shore defenses. when the war was over, he refused to wait on train transport home.
