Son of Hiram Delbert McLaughlin (1863-1914) and Flora Alice Atkinson (1867-1914).

1910 United States Census, Madison, Jay, Indiana: Hiram D. McLaughlin is head of household, a farmer on a general farm age 46, with wife Flora A. McLaughlin age 44, and children Ray, a farm laborer on home farm age 18, Leola D. age 16, Lella M. age 14, Ara A. age 12, Alice age 9, Onida age 7, and James L. age 5.

Oral Ray McLaughlin married Eva Nevada Gillett on January 21, 1913 in Jay, Indiana.
