Margaret McLaren had the unique distinction of being born in neither New Zealand or Scotland. She was, in fact, born on board the Ship "lnvercargill" on 12th August 1875 about half way to New Zealand.
She married James John Jones of Dunedin, a Hanson Cab driver, who owned about four cabs and appeared to have quite a business. Yet Margaret died in poverty on the 4th November 1946 at the Dunedin Public Hospital aged 72 years, only three days before the first sum of a long delayed rension was paid to her. The pitiful Nine Pounds of this pension was used to bury her.
Like her sister she had no children.
