Biography

When Neil McLaughlin was born in 1863 in Templemoyle, Donegal, Ireland, his father, Phillip, was 23. He married Mary McLaughlin on January 14, 1897, in Clonca, Donegal, Ireland. They had ten children in 26 years. He died on October 29, 1943, in Culdaff, Donegal, Ireland, at the age of 80, and was buried there

1860 - Birth - Neil was born about 1860 according to the 1901 and 1911 Ireland Census. Mother is presumed to be Eleanor Duffy as shown on brother Philip's birth record. Father is Philip McLaughlin shown on Neil’s marriage record.

1897 - Marriage - at 35 years of age on 14 Jan 1897 Neil (bachelor) of Templemoyle married Mary (spinster) McLaughlin of Holmes, in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Aughaclay in the presence of Hugh McLaughlin and Mary Mulloy. Documented by both the Irish Civil Registration and St. Patricks Aughaclay Church. By Rev. John McCullagh. Philip is listed as Neil’s father (dead).

1901 - 1901 Ireland Census - Neil, 41 years of age, is shown resident of a house 35 in Templemoyle (Culdaff, Donegal). He is enumerate with wife Mary (25) and daughters Ellen (age 3) and Catherine (age 1). Occupation - Farmer. Can read and write. Also enumerated is Annie Crampsey, age 10, relation to head of house is daughter, occupation is servant, she can read and write. ** exactly how Annie is related is unknown.

1911 - 1911 Ireland Census - Neil is 50 years of age shown resident of a house 45 in Templemoyle (Culdaff, Donegal). He is enumerated with wife Mary (age 33) married 13 years with 6 children born and 6 children living. Ellen (age 12), Catherine (age 10), Mary (age 8), Bridget (age 6), Annie (age 4), and Philip (age 2). He can read and write.

1943 - Death - 28 Oct 1943 - Ireland Civil Registration shows Neil, of Gortynarin Inishowen, died a widower at 84 years of age. His son Philip was present at time of death. Cause of death: Hypostatic Pneumonia for 7 days and Cardiac Failure.

1943 - Burial - 30 Oct 1943 - Neil is buried at St. Patricks Aughaclay Church - Church records show Neil was 80 years of age at death.
