Words from Jack’s Big Brother Garry

I remember 14 November 1948 very well. Not only was that special day in my life, but my mother’s and most of all to the baby boy she gave birth too. That baby boy was named, Jack Alan McLaughlin. I guess you are wondering why it was so important? Well, the truth be known, I was afraid it was going to be another sister. I already had three of them and having to deal with three girls all by myself was at times excruciating. Now, I would have a compatriot to help even out the odds. Jack and I grew close. Our parents appointed me as his guardian. In other words… I was responsible for him. To watch out for him and take care of him. I taught Jack the things I liked to do… fish, hunt and trap and music. We got along well until it came to the music. He came of age when the Bugs, as I called them, most people called them the Beatles, came on the scene. I was a big band and old-time rock and roll guy. He was a rock guy. I couldn’t talk him into playing a trombone… He chose the Guitar. Both acoustic and electric. I chose very short cropped haircuts and Jack chose no haircuts. Jokingly I always introduced him to my friends as Jacquelin. He would just smile and let roll off his shoulders. Some of our best times were hunting, fishing, and trapping. We spent many happy hours together doing all three things. I can say one important thing about Jack’s passing… I know he is probably still playing a guitar, but now he is sitting beside his idol John Lennon. Both trying to outdo the other. My last words to Jack from me … Jack, get ready to lay down that guitar, because when I get there, I am bringing two fishing poles and a can of worms.
