Biography

From the Dayton Daily News dated Sunday, July 30, 1933, we learn that John Abbott drowned on July 29, while swimming with his companion F. L. Hoover in the Mad River. He was separated from his wife and had lived in Dayton for about three years. He was employed by the Hollister Electric Company. The newspaper said that he had a son, Duncan, living in Detroit, Michigan. McLean was buried in Section 10, Lot 419, Grave #10 at the Dayton Memorial Park and Mausoleum at 8135 North Dixie Drive, Dayton, Ohio, 45414. He married Clara Unknown. Clara's surname may have been "Chesner" and her son may have been "Duncan". My cousin Marjory McLean related one of her early memories that must have happened in 1933. Her father was driving her to a girls camp near Baskins Landing on the Ottawa River. My father went along to keep his brother-in-law company on the drive home. During the ride, Freeman informed his daughter that her Uncle Jack had drowned. Initially, Marjory was puzzled because the Uncle Jack she thought of, my father (Jack Erwin), was sitting in the passenger seat beside her father. Marjory had two Uncle Jacks but seldom saw the one that had drowned in the Mad River.

John was born in 1902. He is the son of Archie McLean and Emma Charlotte Lusk. He passed away in 1933. [1]
