The Parish of Muiravonside in the County of Stirling death register entry for Alexander's father, James McLellan records that he died on Tuesday, June 28, 1898, at Haddiston, Muiravonside, age sixty-eight. The entry also informs us that he was married to Helen Hunter; he was a coal miner; his father was Alexander McLellan, a coal miner; he died from chronic bronchitis, asthma, cardiac dilation, and cardiac failure; illness lasted ten years; and his death was certified by L Harcourt Lawrie. The death was reported by son John McLellan, who was present at the time of death, on Tuesday, June 28, 1898, at Muiravonside to registrar John Eccles.
On Sunday, March 31, 1901, the Scottish Census enumerated Alexander within the County of Stirling, Registration District of Muiravonside, Enumeration District Number 2. According to his entry on Page 24, Schedule 115 of the archive, he lived in Iron Cob. The document includes the following information for Alexander and the other members of the household:
