Lachlan was born in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland on Oct 27, 1843 and was christened in St Andrews, Glasgow, Scotland. He was the son of Donald Alexander McLellan and Annie McInnes (or McShines). Donald and Annie emigrated to Australia from Scotland via Liverpool, England aboard the "William Miles" in late 1854 and arriving in Moreton Bay, Queensland on Jan 19, 1855 with Lachlan and their two other sons John and Alexander. The MacLellan family settled at Clifton on the Darling Downs, Queensland where Donald and Ann had another three children : Maryanne, Donald and William.
Lachlan met and married Mary Anne Hanly in the Catholic Presbytery, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia on Sept 28, 1873 where the witnesses were Michael Connolly and Delia Hanly (sister of Mary Anne). They had five known children.
Lachlan passed away in Mareeba Hospital, Mareeba, Queensland, Australia on July 26, 1912, age 69-70 and is buried in Mareeba Pioneer Cemetery, Mareeba, Mareeba Shire, Queensland, Australia.
Cause of Death : Strangulated hernia.
