Percy Edward McLennan was born on 10th May 1905 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He was the son of John Kennedy McLennan and Susannah Maria Paxton. [1]
Percy served in the Second Australian Imperial Force during the Second World War; enlisted 19th June 1940, discharged 7th December 1943. [2] He was a member of the 2/3rd Pioneer Battalion, an engineering unit. The battalion started the war as a unit of 7th Division, however was transferred to the 9th Division when the 7th returned to Australia in early 1942. It was, therefore, part of the infamous Rats of Tobruk and participated in the Battle of El Alamein. In 1943 the battalion assisted the 9th Division in its amphibious landing at, and subsequent defence of, Scarlet Beach, near Finschhafen. [3]
Percy married Ethel Hilton in 1947 in Parramatta, New South Wales. [4]
Percy passed away in 1975 in New South Wales. [5]
