Duncan came to Canada with his family in 1850 and returned to Scotland in 1859; he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister there. In 1870 he returned to Canada and served in Ancaster, Paris and Barrie, Ontario.[2] Indeed, in 1881, the family including Herbert lived in Paris, Ontario.[3]
Duncan and Annie lived in Barrie in 1891.[4]
Duncan and his wife are buried in the Barrie Union Cemetery in Barrie, Ontario.[5]
