Biography

Archibald was born 29 Oct 1896 in Prince Edward Island. [1] He lived with his family in Queens County in 1911. [2]

Archie was drafted to the Canadian Expedition Force and served in France and Belgium. He was described 12 Dec 1916 (at enlistment) as 5' 7 3/4" tall with ruddy complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. He arrived in England on the SS Olympic 7 May 1917 and was stationed at Shorncliffe. He saw active service in No. 2 Canadian (Overseas) Siege Artillery Battery, CEF in France and Belgium 18 Jul 1917 to 26 Aug 1918 and was discharged in Charlottetown 18 May 1919. [3] The battery was significantly engaged in the Canadian Corps action in the taking of Hill 70 (France) in August 1917 and in the First Battle of Passchendaele (Belgium) on October 12, 1917.

In 1924, Archie married Amy Annette Johnstone In Calgary. [4] They lived in Carbon, Alberta in 1926. [5] They had two sons. At retirement, they moved to Calgary. [6] Archie died 22 Oct 1987 in Calgary and was buried in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Calgary. [7]
