Biography

Moses McCloud was a Canadian First Peoples and member of the Métis Nation.

Moise McLeod (Moses McCloud) was born at St. John's[1], Red River Settlement about 1846[2] to Joseph McLeod and Angelique Lacerte[3].

Moise married widow Jane Lillie (daughter of Daniel Lillie and Mary Ann Richards[1]) at St. François Xavier, Manitoba on 9 Sep 1869[3]:

The ninth of September 1869, the ecclesiastic marriage, in the presence of two witnesses John McDougall and Antoine McLeod, between Moise McLaud, of-age son of Joseph McLaud and of Marie Anne Lessard, father and mother of this parish, and Jane Lillie, of-age widow of Daniel White.

At the time of the 1870 census, they were residing at St. François Xavier with two children: John (son of Jane), age 6, and Marguerite, age 1.[2]

Jane passed away. Moise married Marguerite Henault (widow of Pierre Morin; daughter of Antoine Henault and Catherine Davis) sometime before 1913, when they were recorded on a 1916 census roll together. The couple had no known children.[1]

He passed away on 3 Nov 1926.[4]
