Catherine was the sixth of 12 children in the Thomas and Rose McCormick McMahon family.[1] She appears to have been given the name of an older sister who died in childhood before she was born. She grew up on her family's farm in Wellesley Township, Waterloo County.[2]
According to later census records, Kate emigrated to Michigan in 1890[3] though she is shown on the 1891 Canada Census living with her family.[4] She married James Boland in Detroit, when she was 29 and he was 43.[5] James and Kate were still living in Detroit in 1910.[6]
Catherine died when she was 48 years old. It is not clear whether she died in Detroit or at her family home in Wellesley Township, Ontario, but she is buried with her parents in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Macton, Wellington County, Ontario.[7][8]
