Pvt Leroy McMichael served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: Sep 10, 1861 Mustered out: 1862 Side: CSA Regiment(s): Company C 27th Regiment Georgia Infantry
In 1850, Leroy is living with his widowed mother, Elizabeth McMichael and her father James May in Crawford County, GA.[1]His mother died the following year[2] and later on Leroy's guardianship is granted to, his oldest brother, William James McMichael.[3]
In 1860, Leroy is living in Upson County, GA with his oldest brother's household with two of his other siblings, Lucinda and Thomas Jefferson McMichael.[4]
On September 10, 1861, he signs up for the Civil War in Crawford County, GA with his brother-in-law Job Allen, who was also a member of Company C, 27th Georgia Infantry.[5]
Leroy McMichael gets sick and is sent to Richmond, VA in Feb. 18, 1862. He is later admitted to Winder Hospital in Richmond, VA on May 7, 1862[6]
"... May 9th [1862] ... 2 PS Just as I was closing John Murchison sliped [sic] in. He did not go with Doc and Jim Wilson. He says they are going to a much better place than this. He say Doc looked very well and is doing finely but Jim Wilson was quite feeble but was improving. After John came we went to another Hospital and found several Crawford boys among whom were Lee McMichael. Poor fellow cried like a child when I spoke to him. He has the Typhoyd Fever and is very sick. He is in the Wynder [sic] Hospital..."[7]
