When James McMillan was born in 1750 in Scotland, his father, Dougald, was 48 and his mother, Isobell, was 27. He married Mary Brown on 3 Aug 1799 (though an earlier marriage event may apply, purportedly in Cumberland County, North Carolina), in Tynemouth, Northumberland, England. They had nine children in 17 years. He died in 1810 in Cumberland, North Carolina, at the age of 60. Assuming that the 1800 census record is a correct match, a record of the name John McMillan in Cumberland, North Carolina exists.[1]

Research Notes

Profile on son James says he was born in NC circa 1795, predating the marriage (which, notably, is said to have been Tynemouth).

McMillan-102 and McMillan-108 appear to represent the same person because: While the parentage differs, it appears that based upon date of birth and progeny, these are the same people. Perhaps the alternate parentage should go as "uncertain," if you have greater than 50% confidence and a source; otherwise, I would recommend combining these two profiles.
