Biography

Duncan was born on 23 May 1837 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Duncan I McMillan and Flora McCollam. He was baptized in Alexandria, Ontario.[1]

In 1851 Duncan was living in Kenyon, Glengarry County, Canada West (Ontario), Canada. Age: 15.[2]

When Duncan was 23 he was living in Hibbert Township when he married Grace McKay on 4 April 1861 in Huron, Ontario, Canada. [3][4][5][6]

Duncan arrived in United States between 1864[7] and 1870.[8][9]

In the 1870 census Duncan was living in Berlin, St Clair, Michigan, United States.[10]

In 1871 Duncan was living in Lochiel, Canada.[11] or Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.[12]

In 1880 Duncan was living in Echo, Antrim, Michigan, United States.[13][14]

In the 1881 census Duncan was living in Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.[15]

In the 1891 census Duncan was living in Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.[16] or London City, Ontario, Canada.[17]

In the 1900 census Duncan was living in Echo, Antrim, Michigan.[18]

In the 1901 census Duncan was living in Alexandria (Village), Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.[19]

In the 1910 census Duncan was living in Echo, Antrim, Michigan.[8]

In the 1920 census Duncan was living in Trout Lake, Chippewa, Michigan.[7]

Duncan died at the age of 86 on 30 December 1923 in Hulbert, Chippewa, Michigan, United States, and was buried in Hulbert Cemetery.[20][21]

There seem to be conflicting 1861 census information

  • In 1861 Duncan was living in Glengarry, Canada West, Canada.[22]
  • At the time of the 1861 Census, Duncan McMillan (mistranscribed as "McMilliam") was listed as living in Tuckersmith Township, Canada West.[23] At the time of the census, Duncan's occupation was listed as "Laboror".
  • Tuckersmith Township was amalgamated into Huron East in 2001.[24]
