Samuel was born about 1836. The earliest record that we find of him is when he was living with his widowed mother, Catherine (Munn) McMillan, in the 1850 Cumberland County, North Carolina, United States census. In the 1850 census Samuel was age 14 and his mother was 57.[1]
Samuel McMillan died after 1900, at which time he and his wife were both still alive in Flea Hill Township, McMillian Chapel Precinct, Cumberland County.[2]
