Biography

Frances "Fanny" was born around 1821 in the City of Glasgow, on the River Clyde, in Glasgow Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of Shoemaker, John (McMillan) and Elizabeth (Evans/McMillan/Henney).

Marriage

Thomas (Chalmers) marries Frances (McMillan) on the 3 June 1842 at the Parish Church of Saint Andrew, St Andrew's Street, Glasgow, Glasgow Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland[1].

Residence

Thomas first appears in the Census Record of 1851 married to Frances "Fanny" (McMillan) and living with their children Agnes, Thomas, Frances "Jane" and Robert Christie (Chalmers) at 84 McAlpine Street, in the City of Glasgow, Glasgow Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. For some reason, Fanny's Christian name is recorded as "Euphemia" on the Census[2]. By 1861, the couple are living at 5 College Street, in Glasgow, District of Clyde, with children Frances "Fanny", George, Elizabeth and William Andrew (Chalmers) and Apprentice Tailor/Boarder, George (Gilmour)[3].


In 1871, Thomas and Fanny have moved to 83 McAlpine Street, in Glasgow, Clyde District, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Their children George, Helen "Elizabeth" and Jane Thomson (Chalmers) live with them[4]. With the arrival of the Census of 1881, we find Thomas and Fanny still at 83 McAlpine Street, in Glasgow, District of Blythswood. Only their daughter, Jane Thomson (Chalmers) resides with them now[5].

Death

On the 5 May 1889 at 1.00 am, Frances "Fanny" (McMillan) succumbs to Paralysis and Bronchitis at 101 Holm Street, in the City of Glasgow, District of Blythswood, in Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was around 67 years old at the time and her husband Thomas (Chalmers) was present, and informant, at the death[6].
