1819: Angus was born in Inverness, Scotland. He is the son of Allan McMillan a Wood Forester and his wife Jean McMillan (whose maiden name was also McMillan). Inverness is the largest city and the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands and people have been living there since at least 6500 BC.[1] In the 1861 Census Angus listed his birthplace as Fortinthar, Inverness. I cannot find any trace of Fortinthar but it translates from Scottish Gaelic as "Fortune" and may have been the name of a private house in the City. [2] [3]
1841 - Angus, age 22 is living in a the huge household of the MacDonald's in Fort William South Side Of Main Street, Inverness, Scotland. He is working as an Agricultural Laborer. Fort William was an actual fort. built to control the Highland clans, in the heart of Clan Cameron country, it was named Fort William twice, first after William of Orange, then later after being renamed twice it was renamed Fort William again, this time after Prince William, Duke of Cumberland. Angus was married to Marion McGeachy on 2 January 1855, in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. [6]
1857 - Marion gave birth to a daughter Janet McMillan sadly she died in Infancy.
1858 - Marion had another daughter Mary McMillan.
1861 - Augus is 42 years old, he is a Labourer, living with his family in Dalaruan, Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland. His family is his wife Marion (age 36), Allan McMillan (age 5), Mary McMillan (age 2) and later that year they had a new baby daughter Jane McMillan. [2]
1863 Marion gave birth to a son Edward McMillan. Edward drowned in the Waikaia River in New Zealand on in 1912, aged 48.
Angus wife Marion passed away on 14 April 1865 aged only 40 yrs.
Angus remarried. He married Agnes McSporran.
He passed away on 19 January 1913. Records state he died on 19 January 1913 in Broombrae, Campbeltown, Argyll, at the impressive age of 93 his cause of death reported as Debility of extreme old age. [3]
Angus McMillan is buried in Kilkerran Cemetery in Campbelltown, Argyll, Scotland, with both his wives, and his infant daughter Janet, there is also a memorial on the Headstone to his son Edward. His headstone reads he was "Late of Kilmahoe" which was a farm on the outskirts of Campbeltown, which had a famous poem written about it by John Campbell Shairp, who described it as a "Highland Pastoral". Kilmahoe is listed in the County Directory of Scotland. [7]
LAST WILL & TESTAMENT - Angus left a Will dated 9 August 1912. Confirmation granted at Dunoon, 16 April to Jane M'Millan or Campbell, wife of Peter Campbell, Broombrae, Campbeltown, and Rev John MacKerchar Macnaughton, minister of the Gospel there. Value of Estate: £174 1s 7d. [8]
Allan McMillan and Jane McMillan married on 29/01/1816 in Kilmallie parish, Scotland. They had 2 other children apart from Angus so he has 2 siblings Ewen and Helen - who wikitree won't let me add until I have the parents.
