Mary McMillan was born in 1770 to parents William McMillan and Mary Leeper McMillian

  • 1790 Mary McMillan, 20, married Joseph Carmack, 29. They had four sons: Francis b. 1791, John, b. 1793, Cornelius b. 1795, and Joseph b. 1798. Husband Joseph, 37, and son Francis, 7, died in 1798.[1]
  • 1799 Mary McMillan Carmack, 29, married James Bell, 32. (Unsourced)
  • 1810 U. S. Census: James Bell lived in Nashville, Rutherford County, Tennessee with one male under 10 (Walter Scott Bell, age 8, or Leander Bell, age 6), one male between 10-15 (Cornelius Carmack, 15), one male 26-45 (James, 43), four females under 10 (Polly McMillan Bell, age 5, and ?), one female 26-45 (Mary McMillan Carmack Bell, 40), one female 45+ (?), and one slave.[2] NOTE: Missing from this census are Mary's other boys by her first marriage: John Carmack, 17, and Joseph Carmack, 12. Also missing is either Walter or Leander Bell.
  • 1820 U.S. Census: James Bell lived in Springfield, Robertson County, Tennessee, with one male under 10 (?), two males 10-16 (Leander S., 16, and William Leeper, 11), one male 16-26 (Walter S., 18), one male 45 and up (James, 53), one female under 10 (?), one female 10-16 (Polly, 15), one female 16-26 (?), one female 45 and up (Mary, 50). Three persons engaged in agriculture, one male slave 26-45, one female slave 26-45, one female slave 45 and up. [3]
  • 1830 U.S. Census: James Bell lived in Robertson County, Tennessee, in the household of son James Bell (Jr.) with four males between the ages of 20-30 (James Jr., 30 and ?), one male 50-60 (James Sr. would have been 63), one female 15-20 (?), and one female 50-60 (Mary, 60), total household members was seven. No slaves. [4]
  • 1840 U.S. Census: James Bell, lived in Robertson County, Tennessee, in the household of son James Bell (Jr.) with one male age 30-40 (James Jr., 40), one male 70-80 (James Sr., 73), one female 20-30 (?), and one female 60-70 (Mary, 70). [5]
  • Mary died between the 1840 and 1850 Censuses.
