Biography

OBITUARY: Robert Dewey (R.D.) McMillan, Jr., age 93 of Georgetown, Texas formerly of Houston, Texas passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 in Georgetown. R.D. was born August 16, 1929 in Houston, Texas to Robert Dewey and Georgia Ullrich McMillan. On March 16, 1951 he married Shirley Smidth in Houston, Texas. He was a graduate of the University of Houston with a B.S. and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He also earned a M.S. in Electrical Engineering at S.M.U. His engineering career included many inventions and patents and three successful companies, culminating in McMillan Co., Inc., in Georgetown, Texas.

R.D. was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 50 years. His beloved wife Shirley died June 17, 2006 in Georgetown, Texas. He is survived by a son, Robert M. McMillan and wife Debra of Georgetown, daughter, Patricia Rothenberg and husband Robert D. of Georgetown, daughter, Mariann Jones and husband David of Georgetown, son, John P. McMillan and wife Cindy of New Braunfels, Texas, grandchildren, Phillip S. McMillan and wife Camber of Wesley Chapel, Florida, David B. Rothenberg and wife Amber of Jonestown, Texas, Mandy Rothenberg Maxon and husband Corey D. of Georgetown, Michael B. Rothenberg of San Francisco, California, Joseph B. Rothenberg of Pflugerville, Texas and fiancée Chelsey Weatherford of Pflugerville, Cherilyn Jones Moehn and husband Daniel of Austin, Texas, Evan Jones of Tallahassee, Florida, Thomas W. McMillan of Georgetown, and great grandchildren Ethan and Jonathan Rothenberg of Jonestown, Fynn, Dash, Taze, and Crew McMillan of Wesley Chapel, Mia, Levi, and Zoë Maxon of Georgetown, and Caleum Moehn of Austin.

R.D. approached life with great enthusiasm, determination, humility, and resilience. He was known for his whimsical sense of humor, his ingenuity and inventiveness, his integrity and loyalty, his enormous generous spirit, and his extraordinary hospitality. In his 93 years, he embodied an uncomplaining, optimistic attitude. He took a sincere personal interest in everyone he encountered. R.D. will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and son; a loyal friend; a servant of God; a caring shepherd; and a loving teacher who helped many people come to an understanding of Bible truths.

The family would like to thank the residents and staff of The Oaks Gracious Retirement Living Community for their kindnesses, as well as AccentCare and caregivers Anita, John, Kelley, Lucy, and Maria for their tenderness and expert care of R.D. over the past few years. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1701 N. Austin Ave. in Georgetown, Texas. Mr. David Jones will officiate the service. Arrangements under the direction of The Gabriels Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Georgetown, TX 393 North IH-35.
