On the 1861 census, Alexander, aged 7 years, is living at Red Brae, Falkirk, with his parents and siblings: William (14 years), Elizabeth (10 years), Agnes (4 years) and Robert (1 year).[1]

On the 1891 census, Alexander, an oil worker, and Euphemia are living at 53 Bell St, New Monkland, with their children: Mary (5 years) and Elizabeth (1 year). They also have a boarder, James McGhee, who is actually a cousin to Alexander.[4]

On the 1901 census, Margaret is living with her parents in Alloa and working as a glasshouse worker but there is no sign of Alexander.
