Katherine was born in 1838. She passed away in 1932.
The death took place at Picton on Saturday of Mrs Katherine Allen, widow of the late Mr John Allen, formerly Resident Magistrate at Picton (reports the “Express”). Mrs Allen, who was 94 years of age, had resided in Picton since the early sixties, and was probably the oldest inhabitant and enjoyed the esteem and respect of the whole countryside. In her younger days she took a prominent part in the social life of the province and she was behind many religious and other movements, while for many years she acted as the Picton correspondent of the “Marlborough Express,” her budget of news being well compiled and eagerly read. Despite her great age, Mrs Allen enjoyed wonderful health until a few weeks ago, when she was overtaken by illness. The surviving members of the family are Miss E. M. Allen, M.A., of the Marlborough College staff; Mrs Arthur Chaytor, of Farnham; Miss Nora Allen, Picton; Mrs Rutherford, Hamilton; Mrs Lambert, Auckland, and Messrs Lewis Allen, Picton; and Gerald and Percy Allen, who reside in the north.
