Edward was born in River Inhabitants in 1895, the son of John William McNamara and Ellen Jane Proctor. He married Mary Ellen "Minnie" Murphy in 1921. He worked as as a CNR extra gang worker. The 1931 Census shows him as the head of family but notes that while the rest of the family is residing in Lower River Inhabitants, he was residing (presumably for work) in Country Harbour Crossroads, Guysborough County. He was residing in Lower River Inhabitants when he passed away in St. Martha's Hospital, Antigonish in 1978. He was predeceased by his wife, his son Terrence, and his son Arthur. He was survived by three daughters, a son and a step son, 60 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was buried in St. Francis de Sales Parish Cemetery.
