OBITUARY.
MR. GEORGE McNAMARA.
Passed, away to his long rest at a private hospital, Waverley, on Wednesday, 26 July, from heart failure, in his 72nd year, Mr George McNamara, who was a very old resident of the Narrabri District. Born at Richmond, on the Hawkesbury River, he left home at an early age, and spent the early portion of his life on the various gold diggings. Arriving in Narrabri in 1872, he some years afterwards founded tho firm of McNamara and Vickery, and ran coaches in opposition to the late Mr. R. J. Nowland from Narrabri to Walgett. After the expiration of Nowland's contract the firm of McNamara and Vlcery secured the mail contract, but it was not long after that Mr. McNamara withdrew from tho firm, and went into the hotel business at Little Bumble on the coach, route between Narrabri and Moree. Returning to Narrabri in 1887, he purchased the good will and premises of the old Greyhound Hotel from Mr. W. H Gordon, now a resident of Cooma. Some eleven years later he built the new Greyhound Hotel, and held the license until 1903, when he sold the lease to Mr. McGrath of Moree, and bought a Hotel in Warwick (Q.), where he remained for two years. Again returning to Narrabri, he took up his residence with his son, Mr. George McNamara, with whom he lived for about ten years, purchasing a portion of the Tarrlaro sub-division. Failing in health he decided to go to Sydney for medical treatment where he remained until the time of his death. In his time the late Mr. G. McNamara was considered one of tho best drivers in the back country. He was of a very charitable disposition, and ever ready to offer the hand of friendship and to assist any one he thought worthy of it. But these acts of kindness he kept strictly to himself. He built the original Farmers Mart, on the site where the present picture show now stands and gave the premises free of charge during its existence. Tho first Auctioneers were Messrs Gue William and John Cunningham (both deceased) the premises being eventually destroyed by fire. He also took a keen interest in all public matters, being an alderman of the municipality and a member of the race club and show committees. Deceased leaves three sons— Percy and George (Narrabri) and Nuge (Sydney.) His remains were laid to rest in tho Rookwood cemetery.
