John Francis McNamara, miner at Malvern, joined the 4th Victorian Imperial Bushmen/Australian Imperial Regiment (A.I.R.) (regimental number 42) and sailed from Port Melbourne on the "Victorian" on 1 May 1900 for South Africa.[2][3]
In Perth Western Australia, on 31st December 1915, John Francis McNamara joined the AIF (Regimental number 142). In November 1916 he joined 44 Battalion in France. In December 1917 he returned to Australia for Discharge due to Lumbago and his age.[4][5]
John Francis McNamara died at Perth 1937[6].
John was interred at Karrakatta Cemetery[7].
