Hi Dave,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles that you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

I have made some errors in connections, but seen to be unable to correct them. Is there a way to complete erase an individual and then re enter them or disconnect them from another person?? Maybe just delete the whole tree and start again?

Hi Dave,

Not to worry. It's all fixable. We can't delete them once they are on WikiTree (unless someone is trying to sell something), but we can definitely help you fix them. I might be able to sort things out for you, but if I can't, I know some wonderful people who can.

Please click on "reply" to give me more details or send me a message by clicking on my name and posting a comment there. (If you don't hit "reply," I won't see the message.

I have connected a grandfather to the wrong person, so if I just disconnect him and reconnect to the right person, or delete and reenter him properly?? Allan McNeilly's father is James McNeilly and Robert McNeilly is James' father (not Allan's). The confusion comes in because Allan was originally named James and also has a brother Robert. Not much imagination in that family, especially because most of the McNeilly's didn't have middle names.

I have made the same mistake, Dave. We can fix this.

Before I start changing things, let me be absolutely clear - Is this the right order?

Dave (son)

Allen (father) McNeilly-238

James (grandfather, moves to Canada) McNeilly-237

Robert (great-grandfather) McNeilly-239

Robert married Sarah Blair (Blair-9388 and Blair-9382). I see that there are two profiles for Sarah Blair right now. We are going to need to merge those once we have the parentage sorted out.

Yes, that is correct, and yes I will need to correct the spouses too. I could send you a pdf file. Is it possible to attach to this?
posted by Dave McNeilly
I have changed the fathers and I have removed Sarah Blair from the family and requested that you approve the merge. That will take care of the immediate problem. I also sent you an email through the "Private Message" system so that you can send me a pdf.

Thanks for upgrading, Dave. I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the years.

The How-to pages have some quick tips on working with both the Wiki pages and our other members.

Take your time, keep track of sources, and use the Genealogist-to-Genealogist (G2G) forum to ask questions about families and research.

Thank you for your welcome message. I hope to learn more about my heritage and perhaps clear up some errors that I have in my information. I started my research with the hope of connecting with cousins, but it has turned into a quest for ancestors and a database of a couple of thousand people. Maybe we can help each other over the next while.
