Reuben was born about 1828 to Archelous and Katherine Sutphin McPeak in Carroll County, Virginia. [1][2][3]
Reuben McPeak is listed with his parents on the 1850 Census in Floyd County, Virginia.[4]
There is speculation that Reuben was married three times (more research is needed) because three children (see list of children in notes below) are linked to him on Find-a-Grave that have birthdates prior to his first recorded marriage to Minerva Rhoda Hylton (1835–1877) in 1854 (see marriage record below). He is listed with Minerva on both: the 1860 Census in Floyd, Virginia[5] and the 1870 Census[6] in Laurel Fork, Carroll, Virginia. Those records indicate that they had at least six children: Mary, Rhoda, Alvilla, Albert, William, and Martha. Minerva passed away in 1877.
His second marriage was to Martha O'Neal Bolt (1835–1904) in December of 1877 (see marriage record below). He is listed with Martha on the 1880 Census in Burks Fork, Floyd County, Virginia.[7]
He passed away on June 28, 1890 as legible on his tombstone and verified by Virginia Vital Records (see research notes below); however in the Find-a-Grave index his death is incorrectly listed as June 26, 1896.[8]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Reuben by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Reuben:
