Biography

Agnes McPherson born about 1803 in Stafford County VA and died in Braxton County, WV after Benjamin, her husband's death in 1873 for which she was the informant.[1] She married Benjamin Berry, son of William and Agnes Kitchin Berry.[2]

They were the parents of:

  1. Lydia Catherine
  2. Margaret
  3. Elizabeth
  4. Mary
  5. Emily Ann
  6. Alverna (Melverna). [3][4][5]

Research Note

Marriage Husband Stephen McPherson Jr. Wife Sarah Hibbs. Child: Agnes McPherson. Marriage 2 JUL 1791. Frederick Co. VA/Goose Creek, Loudoun Co., Virginia. [6] Marriage 29 AUG 1791. Virginia[7]

The preceding information presents the possibility that they were her parents, however, there are two Pedigree File family trees for Agnes McPherson, wife of Benjamin Berry, name Joseph, son of Stephen and Mary Pyler McPherson, and Margaret Ann McPherson as her parents. Both are linked to her husband and have this citation.[8]The trees for Benjamin Berry may be found on here.[9] In addition, the grandparents of Benjamin Berry are in doubt on these trees, as well. Keep in mind that the sources for this book were his direct descendants.[10] In addition, the research on Stephen McPherson named him as Jr, married (1) Ann, had two children, Mary and Lydia, (2) Sarah Hibbs in the Goose Creek Meeting Record, Virginia. Thought to have spent time in Ohio.[11]

More research is required to name her parents with any certainty. When Ancestry sources are used in the discussion and as sources it seems it would be appropriate to name them and not just leave it as an unknown for other researchers.

Janet,

The infomation about Stephen and Sarah Hibbs McPherson are in Volume VI as cited. Found McPhersons but no information related to those named in the family search references.

The census for 1850 and 1870 are the sources for her birth year as 1803. Have added to sources urls for McPherson-3569. Tidying can buy one lots of problems. The source for Agnes' parents is in one of six volumes of the Quaker Encylopedia and having just looked at the Penelope (Kent) Stout is in from multiple merges with varied names, stories an info about her that disagree well--

I tried to find the source Vol but to no avail for Mcpherson. Will decline merge until parentage established with specific source.

McPherson-3569 and McPherson-2412 appear to represent the same person because: These guys share the same name, locations and spouse. Their date of birth is within a reasonable distance. This looks like a clear duplicate. Let's get these profiles merged. Please merge into McPherson-2412, the lowest numbered profile. Thanks for all of your help keeping WikiTree tidy.

All the best, Janet
