Dr. J. M. McPHERSON, a pioneer physician and well-loved person, died April 29, 1938, at his home in Terral, Okla. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church of Terral Saturday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Claude Rhodes, pastor of the Terral Methodist church, assisted by Rev. G. A. Elrod, pastor of the Terral Baptist church.
Pallbearers were J. P. Pealor, L. G. Hightower, J. O. Linton, Bob Smart, R. L. Andres and Dock Campbell.
Dr. McPherson was born near Harrison, Arkansas, March 4, 1860. He was married to Miss Laura Ann Laster of Harmony, Arkansas, November 16, 1883, and to this union eight children were born, all of whom survive him: Mrs. W. B. Neale of Crescent; Dr. W. H. MCPherson of Wynnewood; Dr. V. L. MCPherson of Dallas; Mrs. Allan Crain of Sasakwa; Miss Essie McPherson of Casper, Wyoming; Mrs. E. J. McGouldrick of Dallas; B. J. and Guy McPherson of Alice, Texas.
The children's mother died December 18, 1925, and on March 4, 1928, he was united in marriage with Miss Rosa Berry of Terral, and they had a son Lindon Berry.
Dr. McPherson took his medical course at the School of Medicine at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He began his practice of medicine at Wister, Indian Territory in 1898. For two years he was at Fanshaw, Indian Territory, and was located at Sasakwa, Oklahoma from 1902 to 1919. Then he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, then returned here to practice medicine at Dillard, Grady and Oscar. In 1926 he moved to Terral where he was active in his profession until his last illness.
He was a member of the Oklahoma State Medical Association and the Jefferson County Medical Association of which he was president for one year. Dr. McPherson was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church. He was a widely read man, kindly and genial and will be sadly missed.
