“Luna Emaline, daughter of William H. and Emaline Skeels, was born in Republic county, Kansas on March 30, 1873, and departed this life at the home of her daughter August 14, 1947 at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 14 days. Her life was lived in Republic county, Kansas until thirteen years ago when she and her husband moved down to Kansas City to make their home. She joined the Christian church in Belleville over fifty years ago and later transferred her membership to the Chelsea Christian church in Kansas City. She was united in marriage to Arthur Basham on December 27, 1898, and to this union was born three children: Wesley L. of Kansas City, Eugene Clair who passed away in infancy and Thelma I. Keplinger of Kansas City. Her husband preceded her in death on April 1, 1945. Mrs. Basham was a member of the Royal Neighbors and the Auxiliary to the Rural Letter Carriers association. She was a regular attendant at church whenever her health permitted and was interested in helping everyone in need. She was a friend to everyone and had a host of friends. Her departure from this life will be mourned by her son Wesley L.; her daughter Thelma I.; one grandson Merlin Wayne Keplinger of Kansas City; one granddaughter Thressia Woods of Kansas City; two great-granddaughters, Lynn Arry Baker and Linda Carrol Woods; one brother, Henry L. Skeels of Belleville, one brother, William A. McQueen of Belleville; two sisters, Inez Dickerman of Salina, Kan., and Stella Bullock of Pomona, Cal.; and a host of relatives and friends. A sister, a brother and a granddaugher preceeded her in death. A double funeral for her and her granddaughter, Delpha Basham Baker, was held at the Fulton Funeral home in Kansas City Monday August 18, 1947. Services were held at the Christian church in Belleville conducted by the Rev. J. Wilford Carter at 2:00 Wednesday afternoon August 20, 1947. Burial was made in the Belleville cemetery.”
