Biography

Ethel was born 10 Dec 1882 in Eganville, Ontario. ^[1] She lived with her family in Eganville in 1891 and 1901. ^{[2] [3]}

She completed Nurses' training at Kingston.

Ethel Margaret Mc Rae and James Henry Johnston married in 1915 in Edmonton, Alberta. ^[4] In 1916, they lived in the Riverside subdivision of Peace River Crossing, Alberta. ^[5]

About 1916, she went to Peace River, Alberta, joining her brothers George and Mickey there. "Arriving in Peace River, she went to work immediately, at the Irene Cottage Hospital, a very small institution of about ten beds ...but the only unit west of the Athabasca River at the time, and in that light, quite important. It was here that she met and married James Homer Johnston who was at that time a Dominion Land Surveyor working the unsurveyed territories to the northwest of the Crossing." ^[6]

By 1921, they had 2 children and had a domestic servant living with them. ^[7]

In 1962, Ethel and Homer lived at 11124 - 82nd Avenue, Edmonton. ^[8]

Ethel died in 1974 (aged 91–92) and was buried in Westlawn Memorial Gardens in Edmonton, Alberta. ^[9]
