Except as otherwise footnoted, the following adapted from Seward County Kansas.[1]
Guy McVey was born 28 Apr 1888 at Humeston, Iowa[2] the son of John and Zantha "Lillie" (Ritchie) McVey. By 1900, the family had migrated to Seward, Stafford County, Kansas[3] and by 1905 to Brenham Township, Kiowa County, Kansas.[4][5] He married Frances "Fannie" I. Sparkling in 1909. Fannie had been raised in an orphanage. The family came to Seward County, Kansas by train in 1917 or 1919 and lived in a claim house on the northwest quarter of section 16-33-31 where they raised mixed breed cattle, hogs, horses, milo, kaffircorn, corn and wheat. In 1979, son Ernest wrote that they suffered the frequent hardships of life on the Great Plains including "hard winters, grasshoppers, the dirty thirties and the depression."[1][6][7][8]
He passed away 14 Apr 1969 at Pratt, Kansas and is interred at Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg, Kansas.[9]
