Leffindonald farm in the parish of Ballantrae was tenanted by Andrew McWhirter, husband of Jean Aird as early as 1790. Their daughter Jean was born at Leffindonald 16 December 1790. Andrew McWhirter and Jean Aird also had a son William born at Craigneil farm, in Colmonell parish 12 November 1780.
Scotland's Historical Tax Rolls confirm Leffindonald was still tenanted by an Andrew McWhirter as late as 1797-1798. The Engraving on Andrew's parents' gravestone in Colmonell Kirkyard further confirms his tenancy:
"Erected by John and Andrew McWhirter (late) in Donald parish of Ballantrae in memory of their father Andrew McWhirter who died Aug.28, 1758. Also Martha McCluer his spouse who died Aug. 4th, 1794"
