A conservative businessman originally from Illinois who managed real estate holdings in the Pasadena-Los Angeles region. Son of John McWilliams Sr. and Clara Dana who were married in Livingston Illinois and died in Pasadena. John graduated in the class of 1901 from Princeton where he studied history. He met his first wife Julia Carolyn (Caro) Weston in Chicago in 1903, married her on January 21 1911, and moved to Pasadena to take over his father's land management business.
Their children include Julia McWilliams-Child, John McWilliams III, and Dorothy D. (Dort) McWilliams-Cousins.
His second wife was Philadelphia McWilliams.
John was born in 1881. Son of John (born Ohio) and Clara D. Dawes (born Illinois).
