Charles William Mckay was born about 1828 in Halifax, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, son of Charles William McKay (1804– ) and Genevieve Sauniers Saulniers (~1810– ).

Charles had a brother, James Jacques McKay (1833– ).

Charles married Elizabeth Cribby (born about August, 1834 in Petpeswick Harbour, Halifax). Their known children were:

Charles died on February 22, 1912 in Halifax, aged about 83. He was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
