Biography

Daniel was born about 1780. Daniel Mclaughlin ... [1]

Research Notes

Not the son of Patrick Mclaughlin (abt.1755-abt.1813). Assuming this Daniel Mclaughlin (Mclaughlin-1422; born about 1780), was the father of John Mclaughlin (1799-1883) and Martha (Mclaughlin) Vance (1809-1855), then he was not the son of Patrick Mclaughlin (abt.1755-abt.1813). Patrick McLaughlin (Mclaughlin-5627), died in Rye Township, then Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, between 8 March 1813 (date of will) and 29 March 1813 (will proved), leaving six surviving sons--George, Daniel, Joseph, John, Samuel and Anthony. Patrick's son was Daniel McLaughlin (abt.1787-bef.1830)--he was born at Pennsylvania and died in Ohio, before 1830. All of the children of Patrick's son Daniel were born at either Pennsylvania or Ohio, so this could not have included John Mclaughlin (1799-1883) as that John's 1881 census reports his birth at Nova Scotia. This Daniel (Mclaughlin-1422) is being severed the son of Patrick McLaughline in 2023. See McLaughlin-Vance Research 2023.

Not the father of Mary (McLaughlin) Williams. Mary (McLaughlin) William (1816-1892) was born in Pennsylvania (1880 census). She and her husband, Daniel Williams, were plaintiffs in a mid 1830s action at Richland County, Ohio, to resolve some of her father's real estate. Her father was Daniel McLaughlin (abt.1787-bef.1830).

Hoping the items below are sufficient to support severing the link from this Daniel Mclaughlin to now linked father, Patrick Mclaughlin (abt.1755-abt.1813).

Assuming this Daniel Mclaughlin (probably McLaughlin), born about 1780, was the father of John Mclaughlin (1799-1883) and Martha (Mclaughlin) Vance (1809-1855), then he was not the son of Patrick Mclaughlin (abt.1755-abt.1813).

Patrick McLaughlin (Mclaughlin-5627), died in Rye Township, then Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States, between 8 March 1813 (date of will) and 29 March 1813 (will proved), leaving six surviving sons--George, Daniel, Joseph, John, Samuel and Anthony.

Daniel, son of Patrick (died 1813), was born at Pennsylvania and died in Ohio, before 1830. All of the children of Patrick's son Daniel McLaughlin (abt.1787-bef.1830) were born at either Pennsylvania or Ohio, so this could not have included Mclaughlin-1423 as that John's 1881 census reports he was born at Nova Scotia. See McLaughlin-Vance Research 2023.

Mclaughlin-1422 and McLaughlin-8799 do not represent the same person because: If Daniel and Jane/Janet had children who married at Nova Scotia, then the two Daniel's are not the same man.

Hi Wanda,

Thank you for supporting WikiTree.

Hoping you can help as I am working on what seems a different McLaughlin family, and it sure looks to me as though the information about this Daniel Mclaughlin (probably McLaughlin) has been confused with that of Daniel McLaughlin.

This profile about Daniel Mclaughlin (probably McLaughlin) is unsourced. Hopefully you are able to add some good sources so that we can figure out where the confusion arises. WikiTree reports his father is Patrick Mclaughlin (abt.1755-abt.1813), and that Daniel Mclaughlin married Janet Isabella (McLellan) Mclaughlin (abt.1790-)--both of those linked profiles are equally unsourced.

I have. begun to add sources and research notes to the profile of Daniel McLaughlin (abt.1787-bef.1830), whose wife/widow was Isabella, called Isabella Drum or Isabella Drummond. That Isabella is almost certainly not the woman otherwise WikiTree's Janet McLellan (married Daniel Mclaughlin). Janet/Daniel had children John Mclaughlin (married Vance) and Martha Mclaughlin (married Vance).

The Daniel who married Janet is unlikely the father of Mary M (McLaughlin) Williams (1816-1892), who married at Richland County, Ohio, 1834 to Daniel Ayers Williams (1809-1881).

Mary (McLaughlin) Williams is possibly the daughter of Daniel McLaughlin (abt.1787-bef.1830) and Isabella, who moved to Richland County, Ohio, about 1823. Isabella removed still later to the area then Williams County, Ohio, where other children lived and/or married.

I'm hoping you can add some sources to this profile of Daniel Mclaughlin so that we can distinguish between the men named Daniel and do our best to straight on their linked children.

Thank you again for supporting WikiTree.--Gene
