Hugh (Mcnamee) McNamee served with Washington County Militia, Maryland Militia during the American Revolution.

• unsourced rumor is that Hugh was son of Jonathan & Cleveland McNamee of Ireland.
• that Hugh McNamee was born 1740 or 1743 in Ireland, Scotland or Wales is yet to be proved. His name appears on some records as "Newa", Gallic for Hugh (add links these documents, or if they are already sourced in this profile, name them here).
• There is some confusion over this Hugh and a convict-immigrant of the same name. ^[1][2]
• 1760 - Hugh marries Alice Seeds. Or was that Alice Fling? Genealogists studying the matter, based largely on evidence in Wills, concluded she was Fling, not Seeds. A convincing review of the Seed-Fling case concluded she was Seeds. ^{[3] [4]}
• 17 Jan 1776 Hagerstown, Washington, Maryland, USA: Enrolled in first military company organized in Hagerstown. ^[5]
• a narrative of settlers, once forced to burn non-British tea, imported un-taxed.
