Robert Mead/e, son of John Mead and Mary Abrell, was born 1748 in Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He died in 1825 in Harold, Floyd County, Kentucky. He married Hannah Rhodes on 30 Dec 1769 in Bedford County, Virginia. They had 16 children.[1]
Robert's wife, Hannah, was formerly a Quaker, but was "disowned" at the Fairfax Monthly Meeting of Quakers on 30 Dec 1769 for marrying out of unity.[1]
Some of their children include:
A Robert Mead was listed as the father of Matilda Mead who married Solomon Akers on 27 Feb 1812 in Floyd County, Kentucky.[2]
He dealt in real estate in Bedford County, Virginia 1785-1801. Lived on 1,600 acres on Goose Creek or its tributaries in Bedford County, Virginia, which he acquired from his brother William Mead for 16,000 pounds of tobacco.
He conveyed to his brother-in-law, Joseph Rhodes of Bedford County, Virginia, 636 acres of land on the branches of Rock Castle Creek, a branch of Goose Creek on 4 Jul 1786.
Robert moved his family to the head waters of the Big Sandy River in Floyd County, Kentucky in 1801. Settled on the waters of Mud Creek, which empties into the Levisa Fork just below the Town of Harold. Robert brought a few slaves from Bedford County, Virginia to work on a cabin on or near the mouth of Little Mud Creek, Floyd County, Kentucky. These slaves assisted Mead in erecting the cabin and clearing a small area around it. When the task was completed, Robert Mead and his slaves went back to Virginia and returned with his family to their wilderness home.
Robert was appointed surveyor of a road from Graham's Shoals to the Gap of Mud. Served as juror in the case of Campbell vs. Branch.
This establishes his patriotism, and renders his descendants eligible for membership in various revolutionary societies. His residence on Goose Creek in Bedford County, Virginia is described in a deed of 20 Sep 1800 as containing 350 acres of land beginning where Mead's line joins George Cundiff, and along his line as it runs to James Ayres line, thence along said Ayres line to Azariah Doss line, thence along his line to a dividing line that is to be run between said land and land formerly sold by said Mead to John Claytor, thence along said dividing line to a dividing line between said Mead and John Newlon, thence with said Newlon's line to the beginning. By deed of 4 July 1786 Robert Mead and his wife Hannah conveyed unto Joseph Rhodes of Bedford County, Virginia, 636 acres of land on the branches of Rock Castle Creek, a branch of Goose Creek. Robert is buried at Mud Creek, Harold, Floyd County, Kentucky.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Robert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.

Mead-3942 and Mead-411 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate profile. Same wife. Same DAR ancestor. Same death. Conflict on birth year (but close) and location that needs resolution.
Mead-3942 and Mead-411 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate profile. Same wife and data. Parents on Mead-3942 were removed as they were incorrect.
An opinion from one whose grandfather was Carl Arvil Mead from Washington County, Indiana. I think in studying family history that one has to decide between Mead and Meade. It does appear to me that the Mead/e bloodline from Virginia to Floyd County, Kentucky changed from Mead in VA and Meade in KY. I suspect adding the "e" was a sort of an attempt at elevation in the surname/person. By the time Robert moved to Indiana, the spelling moved back to Mead. For my purposes, I go with Mead [as my grandfather spelled] it. By having one spelling - Mead - this helps my indexed database. I could, if I wanted to. go into that much detail and only put the Mead/e family into the spellings as usually given, but I am more interested in the efficiency of one Mead spelling in my genealogy database - always keeping in mind the surname could be Meade. I am not willing to do this with Carl Mead's wife, Mary Florence Stephenson. The Stephenson surname spelling has always remained consistent except in some military listings, including the name chopped off to Stephens or Stevens. In this case, the spelling of Stephenson seems to predominate in records and I have maintained that always with the caveat the surname could be spelled Stevenson, Stevens, or Stephens, I keep Stephenson as the predominate name.

Meade-1886 and Mead-411 appear to represent the same person because: Per wikitree policy, each individual should only have one profile shared between family members. These two profiles have some differences, but they are obviously the same person. Any differences need to be noted in the biography section with appropriate source citations given.
Mead-411 and Meade-140 appear to represent the same person because: Robert Mead-411 and Robert Mead-140 do seem to be the same person, and parents also match. Mead-411 already shows connection to sons, Samuel and Rhodes J, the later of which I am a descendant.
